Beauty Storage Part 2

Here is Part 2 of my storage posts, for those that missed Part 1 see here.

The second part of my storage posts features my draw units that holds my actual make-up.

Now I got my two plastic storage units from B&Q from £12 and £8 I think. I am sorry but I can't seem to see them online to show you a link. I know they are not the prettiest make-up storage ever but they are a good size, easy to clean, and can be on my bathroom window sill without the worry of them getting wet. I was sooooo happy when I found them!

The smaller of the two units has two draws the same size and a flip-up compartment on the top.

This one tends to hold my make-up palettes and miscellaneous products. The flip-up compartment contains my go to moisturisers and eye creams. It makes this very accessible to easy to find the one I want to use.

The second unit has 4 draws, 1 big one and 3 smaller draws. I have separated this out to have:

1. My face product such as foundation, blusher and concealer in the bottom.




2. Mascara and eyeliners in the second from bottom.




3. Eye shadows in the second from top.




4. Lip products in the top.

I mainly only keep my go-to items in these draws I do also have a large make-up bags full of stuff I don't tend to use (I probably should look to sell these bits). But I do use most of the products that I store in here.

They are certainly not pretty to look at but I love them, they fit loads in and they are easy to maintain and clean. As I put my make-up on in the bathroom I was lucky that they are the perfect size for my bathroom window sill (it is quite wide).

Part 3 will be about my storage for bits such as face care and other fun items! I hope you like having a nosey at my storage, what do you use?

Beauty Storage Part 1

I had done a previous post back in December last year on my make-up storage that I had in my bathroom, I have recently just update a lot of this so decided to do another post. I have done the post in two parts, starting first with my nail polish storage.

My old storage was rubbish for nail varnish I couldn't fir them all in, I could never find anything in there and it had garb handles either side so they used to fall out of them....all in all rubbish. But I found this great box while shopping in Ikea the other day.
It retails at £3.05 comes with adjustable, removable dividers you can see more about it here.

Most of my nails polishes actually stand up in it such as Models Own, George, E.L.F, Barry M, 17, Rimmel etc. Unfortunately some have to lie down such as No & and OPI but again they fit well.

I have only got one box so far but I haven't been able to fit them all in so far so I need to get another 1 or 2 boxes as soon as!

Part 2 of the storage will be on my new make-up storage boxes that I found while D.I.Y shopping!

Make-up and Products Storage

I don't particularly have much room for storage in our flat especially after having our little girl. I tend to get my make-up on in the bathroom and recently I have been trying to get everything organised in there, as it kept getting really untidy (and it's getting on my nerves). So I thought I would just show you how I am currently storing all my make-up, below is now how my window shelve in the bathroom looks.

I have recently just found this unit at the back of my wardrobe, though it is missing a draw (I just can't find it) its perfect for my make-up. I have found this really handy to use. I was just using a basket before for my main essentials but I could never find anything but now I can get to everything I want and it keeps everything neatly away. I have tried to separate out all my make-up by eyeshadows, lippies, foundation/face, mascara/brushes/eyeliners. I do still have abag of items that I rarely use as well but I can't squeeze them in just now, hopefully I can find the other draw. I now just need to get my husband to paint it plum or grey to match in with my bathroom.

The two baskets below are from Next and they hold my essential moisturisers, eye make-up removers, tweezers, some lip balms, eye creams, and my current cleanser and toner. These cost me £10 and you can still get them from here, they also come in different colours as well.

My favourite item in the bathroom is the jar below it is from Ikea and I had got around 8 of these in the summer for my wedding as we had a sweet buffet, these come with a lid and are 59p so a bargain. L now wants one for her bathroom as well, currently our poor mum has them all in her attic. After having soooo many left I decided it would be handy to use for my cotton wool in bathroom. I don't really have any room to use them in my kitchen, again we struggle for space in there!

I am still trying to find the perfect storage for all my make-up and cosmetics, or as husband would say 'crap'. These will do me for now but any ideas or suggestion would be great! But I still need to get a make-up brush holder and something better for my nail varnish.

Round Up of the Week

Hi hope everyones weekends been good!

So its December already and only 20 more sleeps till Christmas - scary!! Its gone super quick. To get in the Christmas spirit we've had a christmassy make over on the blog. What do you think??

For me, we're at the 6 month countdown to my 4th June 2011 wedding. Eeeeeek so excited!!!!

Other than that realisation I haven't actually done anything interesting this week - I've been a bit poorly and have felt very sorry for myself.




My poor nose is red raw, which is going to look damn attractive for my works Christmas Do on Friday - awesome.

My little baby has been keeping me company though. She's a little strange and has claimed the my stepdaughter cat bean bag as her own.



She seems to get annoyed if I don't leave it in front of the fire for her.

Pretty storage..

Picked up this lovely cut glass jar from the Boots Sale - reduced from £12.00 to £6.00. As you can see I'm storing my cotton pads in it.

Not only is it super cute with it's little green bow but it fits in perfectly with my other makeup storage. I have a few cut glass bowls and jars, that I keep a few bits in from hair clips to my everyday moisturizer and toner my my bed. They're things I need easy access to everyday but that doesn't mean I need to see them (if you get what I mean). I'd much rather have the pretty glass jars on show - pretty and organised.

Beauty Storage Part 3

This is the third and final part of my Beauty Storage series, you can see the previous posts here.

This part of the series is about how I store all my essential bathroom items such as shampoo, shower gel and the little ones stuff. To store all of this (and there's a lot) I have two black basket units from Argos.
They each have 4 drawers and are available at Argos for £19.99, they are available in four colours (Black, Apple Green, Ocean Blue and Super White). I have them sat either side of my sink so it makes everything easy to get at. We have divided the toiletries in the bathroom between these draws, spilt out by mine, Hubby's and the little ones.

I love these units for the price and make my bathroom a lot more clutter free...

Bedroom Storage and Accessories

So today I thought I'd share with you a few images of my Bedroom setup/storage etc.  We moved into our new house in August last year and we've been working slowly on getting every room exactly how we want it.    The bedroom is nearly done now - the Hubby has just got to put up a canopy and some lights above the bed.

So here we go,

First off my bedroom furniture is by Laurence Llewelyn Bowen and is lovely and bright pink on the inside.  It's actually marketed as children's furniture but its all normal sizes and is far too pretty  not to be in my room!

The wash bowl and jug belonged to my Nana and a grabbed it when she was having a clear out.  The lovely little box is from Gifts and Pieces, 

The gorgeous little bunnies and the bird catchall are both Urban Outfitters. Seriously I think the bunnies are the cutest thing ever.

I keep my dressing table quite simple and I actually don't tend to use it to do my makeup - I wear glasses and if I'm not wearing contacts I so can't see clearly enough in it.

The jars are all from car boots.  I love a bargain.

The shape of the room doesn't allow us to place our bedside tables next to the bed - the bed sites in a cove, so we strategically placed them in the room.  On mine is actually my wedding bouquet and a bargain car boot bowl with my cleansers, toners, serums and moisturisers.  Finally the photo is of my Dad who passed away 6 years ago.

My Hubbie's bedside table has my favourite picture from my wedding which is sitting on top of my wedding box (filed with bits and pieces form the day). Along with a heart catchall from Urban Outfitters.

Either side of the bed in the little cove, we have a couple of little shelves.

The shelves include a mix bunch from car boots, Urban Outfitters and Gift and Pieces. I admit I have an Urban Outfitters problem.  The Me to You teddy I've had for years - I actually had each of the letters for my name, but as I got older they looked a little much and I just kept the L.  Oh and my pride and joy is my little R2D2 is a car boot find my Dad got me about 10 years ago.  Weirdly not a massive fan of Star  Wars so a little strange that he got it me but so can't part with it.  It also still beeps when you press a little sections on his front.

Last up is a sign I made for our top table for our wedding. Didn't want to just throw it out after the wedding and I think it looks great on our window sill.

Violets are Blue...

I have been looking to buy lots of lovely citrus and bright colours recently when looking at nail polishes. But when I was organising my nail polish into its new storage this morning I found this colour, that I completely forgot I had. I have now popped this onto me toes and I quite like it, I have just included a fake nail swatch though as no-one likes feet/toes pictures.

Its No7 Speed Dry in Violetta that retail at £7 and the choice of other colours available can be seen here. The image has made this polish look a lot more than it is, it does have a great purple tint to it as well. I actually got mine when I had the £5 off No7 Voucher, so its only makes it £2. So for £2 I don't mind the no7 Vouchers but I would never pay full price for these nail polishes as there are far better, cheaper polishes out on the market.

MAC: Disgraceful Customer Services!

Ok so I know its my Birthday and I'm banned from the laptop for the weekend, but I'm so annoyed and just needed to rant about it now!

So I posted yesterday that my fiance was whisking me off to the Trafford Centre today for a nice treat (I live in Lancaster - so its about an hour there and back! so not just around the corner).

I really wanted to go and get a nice pink MAC lipstick and try the foundations. I'm very fair so wanted to be colour matched!

Got there and went straight to Selfridges and started playing with the lipsticks (I would say there was about 7 staff on the corner and about 5 customers - including me and the fiance). I eventually decided on Angel - Just a perfect everyday lipstick for me!

So at this point I've been there 5 minutes and no-one has asked me if I needed assistance, which ok I do prefer that but I now wanted to get the lipstick and pay for it. Tried to get someones attention but nothing (a girl behind the till just turned her back on us and applied makeup to her already OTT face!!) I was starting to get annoyed at this point!

So not wanting to make a fuss I went back to play with the lipsticks again and see if I could get anyone's attention (the fiance really doesn't cope well in these situations and didn't want to just keep quiet! but as it was my birthday he said he would behave). At this point a young girl walked up to the counter and a blonde shop assistant appeared from nowhere and asked if she wanted any help and proceeded to go through about 20 different lipsticks with her - I'D BEEN THERE FOR ABOUT 10 MINS NOW.

Couldn't stand it any long and off I went to Illamasqua, very angry and upset

I got helped straight away and after pruchasing a new cute lipgloss thought to myself DAMN IT I CAME HERE FOR A DAMN LIPSTICK AND TO TRY THE FOUNDATION AND I WAS AT LEAST LEAVING WITH THE LIPSTICK! ITS NOT EVERYDAY THAT I CAN GET TO A MAC STAND

Got back to the counter and was making sure I was happy with the colour choice. So I was sticking it on my hand and showing the fiance, when the blonde shop assistant (still helping the young girl) pushed my arm out of the way to get a lipstick and got lipstick on my cardigan!!!!! I WAS BEYOND FUMING!!

So fiance thought sod this and opened the storage drawers and found the lipstick for me and we proceeded to the till to be greeted by the girl from earlier who turned her back on us to apply her makeup. She still didn't come to serve us, so the fiance had to go and break up another two having a chat and get one to serve us. He voiced his disgusted but I just wanted to leave at that point.

I just cant believe how bad the customer service was!! and whats worse that it seemed to be just me that was being ignored, as there was never more than a few customers at the counter at one time (I purposely had got there for when the Trafford Centre opened).

I've had some really bad customer service before but this was awful - it felt as though I didn't exist. Problem is I like the products, but no way on earth the fiance is going to take me back there now!

So sorry for the long rant but I just couldn't get over how bad my experience was and too top it off the young girl left with nothing and I was fully prepared to purhcase a foundation, powder and a number of lipsticks today and instead came home with over half my birthday cash left!

Lush Jackie Oates

Hey,

I have said that I would do a post on the new Colour Supplement in Jackie Oates that I picked up in Lush the other day, this is £7.50 for 20g so it certainly isn't cheap.

What Lush say:

'Jackie Oates is a light, soothing and gentle base for pale skin types, which are often sensitive and prone to redness. Helen used soothing oats and honey, and the moisturising, protective qualities of lanolin to calm and hydrate, while providing a perfect porcelain finish. The colour supplements can be used on their own as a foundation or applied locally as a concealer. For a lighter finish, they can be used to create your own tinted moisturiser. Just combine a dab of colour supplement with your favourite moisturiser and blend together for your own specially created mix.'

I have been using this on its own at the moment and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised.

This item is actually produced with Jackie Oates who is a UK Folk singer, and the product is aimed at 'traditional folk' with fair skin.

I was first given a same sample from Lush and I experimented with using it on its own or with a moisturiser. My first thought on the product is the smell...it definitely smells calming, soothing and herbal (not bad smells really). As you can see from the colour below is is quite pale but they do offer other tones (pink,yellow etc).

I really struggle with finding a pale foundation that gives me the coverage I want (sheer to medium) and matches my colouring. I tend to go for tinted moisturisers and this is what drew me to this product. I originally purchased this in the Light Yellow shade (the lightest available originally) but recently I spotted that they had released Jackie Oates.

This is much more my colour and I like how it blend in and feels on my skin. I feel it leaves me hydrated and soft it even me out and even blend out some of my red areas.

I feel I have finally finished my searched for a foundation I like....Yay! But (there's always a but) I don't actually like the little jar its in. Its a pain to find in my make-up storage and I don't like that you have to scoop some out to use, I will be repurchasing though!
