Clinique Chubby Sticks

Today's post is on the Clinique Chubby Sticks in Whoppin' Watermelon and Mega Melon.
When I first saw swatches of the Chubby Sticks in the blogsphere I knew I had to pick some up...it just took a while. Here is some more information on the Chubby Sticks from Clinique,
'Super-nourishing balm is loaded with mango and shea butters. Just what dry, delicate lips need to feel comfortably soft and smooth. Eight mouth watering lip tints in all, each with a subtle sheen.'

These are available in 8 shades Richer Raisin, Whole Lotta Honey, Fuller Fig, Mega Melon, Chunky Cherry, Whoppin' Watermelon, Super Strawberry and Mega Melon.

These are a lip balms in a form of a twist up pencil, and they are suppose to be moisturising once on the lips. The texture is great, its solid in the pencil but glides on like a gloss. For a tinted lip balm these are also very well pigmented. I expected it to be more moisturising on the lips, especially as as they are described as Moisturising. But it does give a nice dewy finish and you can build up the colour well.

On to the swatches, we have Mega Melon (L) an orangey pink and Whoppin' Watermelon (R) and light pink.

Then on the lips first is Whoppin' Watermelon,

Clinique Chubby sticks are £16.00 for 3g, this is expensive considering you could called them a glorified tinted lip balm. Now I love a lip balm and especially a tinted one, but maybe these are a bit steep for the price. But there are two major plus sides, firstly they are very pigmented and secondly they don't have a scent which I know lots of you would prefer.

These are great everyday lip colours but maybe a bit on the expensive side, have you tried any of the Chubby sticks?

Holy Grail Moisturiser?....I think so...

Seen as L showed you her Holy Grail Moisturiser I though I would show you my contender, this was also mentioned in my July favourites as well.

I originally tried this back in March when Clinique did the offer with Glamour for their 10 years of Glamour. Readers were able to get sample sized Clinique products free with the £2 magazine. I decided I wanted to try the Clinique Moisture Surge Extended Thirst Relief so I managed to picked up 2 lots.

I have been on a search for awhile to find the right moisturizer, but I have never found one I love. If they moisturised my skin well they would breakout and if they didn't break me out I would end up with dry patches.

Well I was so pleased when I tried this, my skin soaks it right up my dry patches have gone yet so have my breakouts and a little goes along way. So after using up my two freebies I gave in and brought the 50ml version from Clinique at £30.
What Clinique say;
'Light, comfortable cream/gel plumps skin with hydration for a full 24 hours. Fine lines, flakiness and tightness are washed away. In their place-a sense of supple, firm, vibrant well-being, even through shifts in humidity. One 'drink' and skin looks and feels happier, healthier.'

I have to say I am a bit gutted at paying £30 for it as the Glamour freebie's were 30ml, yet this is only 50ml. I could have got 15 bottle from Glamour for £30 and that would have been...450ML!!! Silly me!

But I will repurchase this as I love it and a little really goes along way.

Clinique Strawberry Fudge Eyeshadow Quad

Strawberry Fudge is Clinique's Christmas 2010 range, and is available here. I have seen a lot of posts about this range in the blog world and I really liked the colours but I don't think I would have particularly rushed out to get it. image from http://www.clinique.co.uk/

But my mum had recently popped into her nearest Clinique counter and received the eyeshadow quad below, as a freebie with some other purchases and she was very pleased! And I have to say the eyeshadows were nice and as they are quite pale (I find this with the colour surge shadows, they are quite sheer) but I would use them. So I now need to take myself off to Clinique and have a look. The top row of eyeshadow's are the strawberry fudge duo and the bottom row are daybreak and gold rush, from what I can see these are the names and they are Colour Surge singles. As you can see from the swatches below they are not very pigmented, but they all have a lovely shimmer to them. As you can see daybreak has been my mum's favourite!

The pinky shade even has a nice gold shimmer to it when applied, I don't particularly like pink but this is lovely! I think from the four colours you could make some lovely eye looks. On the Clinique website I can't see that you can buy this set but you can buy Colour Surge Duo or Strawberry Fudge Compact which contains a blusher as well.



Has anyone else tried any of the range? what are your thoughts?

Clinique 3 Step System - No thank you!!!

I was recently sent through a trial size 3 Step System to try. Now I have used this before, about 5 years ago when I was at University and I didn't like it. The first time round I'd picked it up, as my sister K swore by it - however it was mainly the clarifying lotion that she loved and still uses it (although she's not found that it's been doing the same job since she had my niece). I actually had the facial soap and not the face wash, the first time and it was not good for my skin at all!!! I also found that the clarifying lotion was too harsh and the moisturiser did nothing for me and if anything it made me skin drier.


But anyway I thought I'd give it another go. I was sent the facial wash this time, with clarifying lotion number 2 and the dramatically different moisturising lotion. Now before I continue I would add I did give this a good go for a week...


OMG it wrecked my skin again and I'm not really sure which bit of the 3 steps was the main culprit. I'd probably go with the whole system!!!


Firstly the facial wash didn't seem to remove all my makeup and made all my face very tight. As I still had a lot of makeup left on (and I hardly wear much on a day to day basis), I had to go over with quite a bit of the clarifying lotion to make sure all my makeup was off before bed. Finally the moisturiser was just awful :( My skin dried up and broke out at the same time, which I can honestly say was delightful! It actually got so dry on the side of my nose it looked like it was starting to crack slightly. That's when I stopped!


Just don't know what it is for me with Clinique but I just haven't really enjoyed anything I've used from there! So I can't even say I have a love/hate relationship, I just don't like it!

Now to be fair I know some people swear by the 3 Step System and a lot of Cliniques range, but it just doesn't work for me and that's life with some brands - what works for some doesn't work for others.


For example, my mum has recently been using the stuff and loves it!

She's went to the Clinique counter in Boots to have her makeup done and then purchased a few bits for my sister's wedding, including the Even Better Foundation. She also received a free gift (even though one of the purchases should have been face care, she was still given the bonus offer) - she got the usual lovely make-up bag with 5/6 free gifts - the mascara (which is ok, but she would never buy), Lip Gloss - ok!!, but nothing special and a few other bits. But one of the free gifts was a 15ml (which is quite big, considering it was free) Superdefence Moisturiser and she love's it! Only problem for her is the price - it's more than she's really willing to pay for an everyday moisturiser (she's putting it on her xmas list though).

She also uses the clarifying lotion in number 2, which seems to work for her and does help if she's having problem skin. She's kind of made up her own 3 step system with some of their other products!

So even though the products realllllly don't work for me, they do work for others and you know what, since I'm been blogging I've really found Clinique to be one of these brands where its a bit hit or miss.

Pore Minimizer Refining Serum

I'm back!!

Sorry I know I've been a rubbish blogger recently, everything has just been a bit manic. It was my birthday, then my niece's, my mums, my stepdaughter's this weekend just gone and its also my twin sister's Hen Do this coming Saturday and her wedding is on 4th September. So as you can see, lots on!!

Anyway wanted to get a quick post up, of a recent impulse buy from Clinique.

Ok so this claims to:

"immediately and overtime minimises the appearance of enlarged pores due to excess serum production or from aging and the breakdown in collagen lattice"

Which is quite a bold claim - and I'm not delusional, I firmly believe that you can't alter the size of your pores but I was hoping that this may just help with keeping my pores clear etc and improve their overall appearance.

Its semi-transparent and I have to say - its looks sort of like silicon, which is a bit weird.

I've been using this every morning and night for about a month.

I don’t know if I can say that I’ve really seen any difference. Around my nose does look generally better, however I think that’s more down to my improved daily routine (what I really mean is I now have a daily routine) rather than just this one product. It hasn’t blocked my pores or caused any breakouts, which is a definite plus point but for £16.99 I just don’t see any truly positive results.

Overall – Just not that impressed and won’t be repurchasing!

I need to accept that fact, that I’m just not going to be able to get rid of my pores!
