Oscars Best & Worst dressed

Ok so last night was very much about the Shimmering Nudes vs Bright Reds.

Nudes

Hilary Swank, Hailee Steinfield and Halle Berry.
(love Hailee Steinfields dress - age appropriate and fun but very suited to the Oscars)

Cate Blanchett, Mandy Moore and Michelle Williams
(I'm not all that keen on Cate's or Michelle's really - Cate's is a little strange and Michelle's is just not that special)
Reds

Penelope Cruz, Jennifer Lawrence, Sandra Bullock and Anne Hathaway
(How amazing does Penelope look - she only had a baby about a month ago, although I'm not too keen on the dress)
Doing something different

Amy Adams, Reese Witherspoon and Scarlett Johansson
(Love Amy and Reese, not that sure about Scarlett's really)

The Bad
Sharon Stone, Helena Bonham-Carter, Gwyneth Paltrow and Celion Dion
Favourites

Natalie Portman and Jennifer Hudson

and Best Dressed of the night:
Mila Kunis

Just the love the colour and style of the dress.
This girl has been seriously stylish this awards season. Love everything she's been wearing.

17 Spring Collection Goodies

Hey,

Well I am sure you have all seen the press releases for the new 17 Spring Collection, so I wanted to show you 3 items I got from the new lines. These were even better as Boots are also running 3 for 2 on all the 17 range.
The items I got were Lasting Finishing Fix Polish in Forever, 17 Blusher in Sweet Kiss and 17 Limited Edition Vintage Love Palette in Metallic Nudes. Firstly I'll show you the palette, you could choose between the Pretty Pastels and the Metallic nudes. I choose the Metallic Nude which retails at £5.49 and contains 6 velvety metallic shades, I am not a pastel kind of girl!
The eyeshadow are really pigmented and all have the metallic finish, I also think the palette looks great, all in all it is a lovely little palette to add into my collection. But the downside for me is that the majority of the shades lean towards a rust colour which doesn't seem to suit my skin colour that much. I think I will mainly use shade 1, 2 and 6. Which is a shame as this palette is good value for money.
The next item I got was from the Lasting Fix nail varnishes in a new shade called forever, these retail at £2.99 and come in about 6 shades (I may need to get all 6 colours).
I really fancied this colour as it looked a slightly warmer pinkier nude tone, and and so far I do like it. It took three coats in the above picture but I still wasn't completely happy with the finish.
Lastly as it was 3 for 2 I quickly picked up the Blusher in Sweet Kiss, which was £3.49. I am soooo glad I picked this up, its a perfect shade for me and its a gorgeous soft pink with a slight gold shimmer and I have found its buildable.
It actual slightly reminds me of a paler version a Sleek Rose Gold, its really lovely.
All in all I like the new Spring Collection and will be off to take a look at some of the other bits!
Thanks

Round-up of the Week

Hey,

How has everyone's week been?

We have both been very busy in work and sorting out bits for L's wedding! I have also had our Mum and Little sister down to stay. But in between being so busy we both have been doing some baking and trying to relax. Me and my little one have been making some gingerbread men and decorating them....guess which is the little one's! But L's baking was far more impressive and she is using her wedding colour theme as inspiration! How good do these look????
I have also managed to pick up Despicable Me this week on DVD from Tesco's (if you were spending £40 on your food shop you could get it for £7). I love this film sooooo much its soooo funny! One of my fav bits its the 'Its So Fluffy', have you seen the film? I also really want a minion as well. Then this week on the blog for your reading we have had:
We hope you've all had a fun weekend!
P.S don't forgot to check out our competiton which ends on the 6th March.

Our 500 follower giveaway!

Cupcake Love....

Just wanted to show you what I spent my Saturday doing!

I absolutely LOVE Baking (definitely more of a baker than a proper cook). I have so many cook books - my first was Mary Berry's Ultimate Cake Book. K actually picked me up The Hummingbird Bakery Cookbook this week as well and I can't wait to try the recipes.

I don't just like making cakes both me and the other half like to make biscuits, bread, pastry etc. We also make our own pizza's as well.

(The other half half is in the process of attempting to make his own tortillas after finding a recipe for them)

Now this batch of cupcakes was made withe the idea of whether or not to make my own wedding cakes. It was only the first attempt at the decorations etc and even though their ok, I've definitely got alot of things I want to change and perfect over the next few months.

The recipe I used for the cake:

  • 4 oz caster sugar

  • 4 oz soft butter

  • 2 eggs

  • 6 oz self rising flour

  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla essence

For the butter cream icing:

  • 4 oz soft butter

  • 8 oz icing sugar

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla essence

Just made up as per the instructions on the box really

For the butterflies:

  • fondant icing - made up as per the box for modelling option.

They were so yummy!

Green Monster

How cute is this little fella??
Adorable, but I'm not talking about that sort of Monster!
I'm actually referring to the 'Green Monster' Smoothie. Now I hear you all asking whats that??
Well on the weekend I was having a nosey at a few blog posts and saw a post on Lollipop Loves, about the Green Monster smoothie saying that she was giving them a go after discovering Angela's blog - The Green Monster Movement.
It's basically a a green smoothie that Angela started making in an attempt to improve her overall health and well being. she includes a number of recipes on her site, but the basics for a 'virgin' Green Monster are:
  • 2 cups spinach (organic is best if you can get)
  • 1-1.25 cups milk (your choice)
  • 1 tablespoon flax (optional - I didn't have anything for the first attempt)
  • 1 banana (I used a frozen one and skipped the ice)
  • ice
Even though I'm soooooo not a fan of spinach, after reading Angela's blog I just had to give this ago! I've got so much going on at the moment - my wedding is on the 4 June 2011 and saying work has been stressful is a bit of an understatement. Overall I'm been feeling a bit drained and definitely not looking after myself probably.
So anyway here you go (in my pretty sundae glasses),

It wasn't that bad really - the banana hides the spinach taste but there was a strange aftertaste though.

But this didn't put me off. I so far had one for the last 3 days!

*actually added a spoonful of honey on the second day - it was so much better

I'm not expecting miracles but for me this is a great way to get my daily fruit and veg in (I'm really bad and hardly ever eat my 5 a day!). So any improvement in my overall well being will be great.

I'll keep you updated.

Another Heads Up!! £5 off Boots No7 Vouchers are back...

Yes they are back, I got my first one today and I've already been looking at what to get!

So how these work:
Everytime you spend over £5 you will receive one of the vouchers, and they are valid until the 27th March. The voucher will entitle you to get £5 off No7 or Ruby & Millie.

These last ran in January and I actually got quite a few items which you can see here . This time I am going to get a couple more nail polishes and some of the make-up brushes. Their brush range seems to have a wide array to choose from, which you can see here , and work out to a bargain with the voucher.

Are you going to get anything with the vouchers? Any recommendations?

Thanks

E.L.F Heads up...

Hey,

I just wanted to do a quick post to give you a heads up on a new E.L.F product. We are both fans of E.L.F and have purchased and shown her on the blog a couple of our purchases, see here for previous posts.

The new item in question is their 32pc Eyeshadow palette in Everyday Brights and Everyday Basics, these retail at £9.00.

E.L.F's website says;

'Limited Edition

This convenient makeup collection for your eyes allows you to be your own makeup artist whenever, wherever. Great value for any makeup lover!

  • An all-in-one compact including the must have eyeshadow shades!
  • Create any look that reflects your personal style
  • the small sleek design is great for on the go beauty touchups '

As soon as I saw this in my inbox I popped straight over and ordered the Everyday Basics palette, as for £9 it seems like a bargain.

As I was making a little purchase I also got:

  • Tinted Moisturiser Spf 20 in Porcelain
  • Mineral Lip Gloss in Sorority Girl
  • Studio Blush in Berry Merry
  • Nail Polish in Dessert Haze & Innocent
  • Single Eyeshadow in Pebble
I will show swatches once I receive my items! Have any of you tried any E.L.F palettes?

Thanks

Vintage inspired hair accessories

So this is the look I'm going with for my bridesmaids at my wedding on the 4th June 2011.
I'm having a vintage feel to the day andf wanted this reflected in some of the accessories (Don't want to go OTT with the whole thing!).

So I'm going to have them all with a messy side bun and then the clip.
Love the way it looks!
And to top it off this costs me £2.50 from Primark!
Bargain.

I'm actually trying to keep my wedding as cheap as possible without compromise on the overall look and feel of the day!
So if people don't mind I tought I would show you a few more of my little wedding bargains soon.

Round Up of the Week.

Ok so this week has been another manic week - only 15 weeks till my wedding......eeek!

I ordered my bridal bouquet n Monday and it came yesterday. I've actually gone for a real touch artificial one from By George BeSpoke.

Couldn't believe that the owner Georgie could get it out so quickly for me - amazing.

I also ordered some shoes to try as my wedding shoes.
I'm so in LOVE with them
(hoping they look as good when they arrive)

K also managed to get this gorgeous dress for my bridesmaids from Coast. She picked them up from Bicester Village for £35.00 each (originally £125.00).

Bargain.

Now K is relaxing it up this weekend at Centre Parcs in Longleat Forrest with all her in laws. Its a family tradition that they do this time every year.

Lovely!

So on the blog this week:

So hope you all have a good week and don't forget to enter our GIVEAWAY only 2 weeks left!

George Nail polish in Mysterious (42) NOTD

Hey,

I had to do a quick post on another gorgeous bargain from George at Asda. On this blog we are both massive fans of high street make-up brand and when I spotted that they had their nail varnishes back down to a £1 I decided to pick up Mysterious.

I think these nail varnishes are quick value for money, they normally retail at £1.50 but occasionally they put them on offer for £1. Even at £1.50 these are great value for money and are much better than the MUA range at Superdrug. We have mentioned some other colours here and here.

This time it was Mysterious that caught my eye, its a great violet shade that has a lovely shimmer to it (it has very tiny pieces of glitter that help to make it sparkle).
I loved how you could pick up turquoise, silver and blue in the bottle and it didn't disapooint was applied, below is taken with 2 coats.
For me this is another great beautiful nail varnish and a total bargain!
It seems we are not the only ones that are drawn to these nail varnishes, check out some other swatches in the blog world at:
Make-up Savvy here, here , here and here
Have you tried any? Are you a fan?
Thanks

Yummy N-Spa Goodies

Hey,
I've got some yummy treats to share with you today! These yummy treats are courtesy of N-Spa, the range is actually from Nirvana Spa in Wokingham. They do a whole range of yummy fruity and rich products as well as a more professional range which you can check out here. I actually got mine from our local Asda and everytime I see the range I want to buy more and more. But the two I want to show you today are Angel Cake Bath Melt and Hot Butter Fudge Sugar Scrub.
First up is Angel Cake Bath melt, this retails at £5.00 for 350ml and comes is the lovely kiln jar which is nice for the bathroom. This is amazing and I am on my second jar since Christmas! I actually love it more than Lush Snow Fairy (Yes you heard me).
I adore the sweet cakey smell of this melt and I love the packaging as it looks nice and the side of my bath. As the name suggests it is more of a melt than a liquid to just pour into the bath.
But it is very easy to pop into the bath, I tend to grab a blob and run it under the tap and then make sure its all dissolve by doing a quick swish. I now use this in most baths (I have another bath item to introduce you to in another post soon), its gorgeous in the bath but not as overpowering as Snow Fairy. Also for the price you get a good amount as it has taken me and the little one around 6 weeks to use the first one up.
This is a must have for me and also great for those who are running out of Sow Fairy, you can buy online or instore at Asda.
The second item is the Hot Butter Fudge Sugar Scrub, which also retails at £5.00 for ml and also comes in a nice kiln jar. First thing I will say about this is that it smells super sweet and stick, the scrub a lovely and thick but applies easily.
Again I like the product but the above image is of the jar I received at Christmas, and so far I have not used all that much up. The problem I have is that I also receive the big Soap & Glory box at Christmas so I have two scrubs that came in that set as well. The scrub is nice except I don't tend to use them that often, though I will say I prefer this one over my Soap & Glory Scrub 'em and leave 'em as it doesn't tend to leave any residue on my skin after I have used it.

L is also a fan of this range and did receive a mini gift set that Asda had had Christmas.
Have you tried any of the range? any recommendations?
