Barbara Daly NOTD in Sizzler

Today's post is a NOTD from the Barbara Daly range at Tesco, the shade is Sizzler which is a Bubblegum/Barbie Pink.
This is a creamy formula which applies opaque in 2 coats.  The colour is a great spring/summer shade and would look great against most skin tones!  I have only put this on my nails today so I don't know the longevity or wear on my nails yet.  But I have seen in the blogsphere that they are good and I have the shade Very Violet which lasts great.
This is a lovely nail polish but it is very small even if it is only £3.00.  There are so many great cheap nail polishes around that I am sure you could get something similar in a bigger bottle on the highstreet.

Barbara Daly nail polishes cost £3.00 for 7ml and are available from Tesco stores or on their website.

You can see our previous posts on Barbara Daly here.

What do you think?

Thanks

Barbara Daly Foundation Fail

I've actually had this foundation for around about a month but have waited longer to do my review as I couldn't make my mind up about it. The foundation in question us Barbara Daly (Tesco) Moisture Foundation in which I think was £6, I picked up porcelain.

My first impression was that it was a bit too pale for me and a little too yellow toned. But I though I would give it a go, but I have ended up mixing it with a Boujois 10 hr Sleep Effect. I am awful at finding a base I am happy with, I tend to mix about 2 or 3 products together before I am happy. And I am not happy with this foundation on its own. I feel its dull and too pale once on, I really have to to use a lot of products with it until I am happy with how it looks on my skin (Benefit High Beam, Bronzer or Highlighter). You really don't get a dewy look with this foundation.

Now I liked how the foundation apply and it does have the light consistency I like from my foundation. I much prefer to just wear a tinted moisturiser a lot of the time, but sometime I want extra coverage. This does give me more coverage, yet its still light on my skin.

Also the foundation does not look great at the end of the day which is no good when you are working full time. I don't always use a primer but that doesn't even make a difference with this foundation. So all in all this has been a bit of a disappointment and I have ended up, when I need more coverage, going back to either my No7 Lift & Illuminate or Bourjois 10 Hour or the two together.

I will not be using this up let alone buying it again, I really don't like my skin when this is on or how my skin looks when I get home.

Have you tried any Foundations from Barbara Daly?

Thanks

NOTD Barbara Daly Very Violet

Just a quick NOTD for you, this is Barbara Daly in Very Violet. It's such a lovely indigo colour with a hint of tiny purple and blue sparkles! I love how in different light in can look more navy or purple. I also showed this varnish in my Christmas nails post here.

I have applied two coats onto my Nailene False Nails. It's easy too apply though I think this was between £4-£5 and for that money you only get a small bottle. But I will be looking too see what else is available in the range!

I just adore these sorts of colours and I am now going to put this on my toe's. It is quite similar to Barry M 292 Navy which I love but the tiny blue glitter really makes this stand out more. And I have noticed I have a MUA from Superdrug for £1 in Shade 1 that is similar with darker tiny sparkles in it!

Have you every tried any of the Barbara Daly nail varnish? What colour are you rocking today?

Christmas Party Nails!

Today's post is about Christmas Party nails, I have my first official Christmas night out on the 20th November (I know its early but it's with my Baby Mum's so we were struggling for a date to meet up), we are going for dinner then a bit of a dance. I think I am sorted for my outfit, still not sure about shoes though. There was an accident involving the pair I was going to wear, Hubby throw one of the pair away by accident! But I wanted to show you my short list of nail varnishes for the night. Also I tend to not really keep polish on my nails as a former nail biter I have to wear falsies, so in the reviews I am basing longevity on my toe nails.

The dress I am wearing is black with some lace on the sleeves so I wanted a bit of sparkle or a metallic finish to my nail polish and these are the three I have found from my collection.

After getting married in September I am trying to cut back my spending so would prefer to use something I have. The first one up is a Barbara Daly for Tesco's that I got in the summer now this was either £4 or £5 (see I don't even look at prices properly), and the colour is Very Violet.
I have used 2 coats on the nail and it does go on really well, I wear this on my toes loads and it does last well. It has a very small brush which isn't great when you are trying to apply it. The colour is a lovely deep violet, with hints of blue sparkle/glitter which the picture doesn't pick up very well. I will be wearing this a lot more now we are into winter. As I would quite happily wear this on a day-to-day basis (navy is a particular favourite colour of mine). Now this would work great with a new Collection 2000 eyeliner pen I got from Superdug the other day.

Next is another bargain polish from
E.L.F in Royal Purple for £1.50 I have a couple of these polishes and I have seen some new colours I would like to try. I actually love this colour sooooo much I wore it on my toe's for my wedding (I wore peep toe shoe's)I don't find the brushes great to use on E.L.F nail polish and I need to normally use 3 coats to get a colour I like. Now I find that this lasts really well on my toe's and I currently have it on at the moment.

Lastly I have a nail polish I got free with Cosmo last month from Misguided in Misfit. This is very much a Christmas nail varnish as it is black with gold glitter in it.
I used to 2 coats on the nail and it went on well (but you really do need at least 2 coats for it to look right), in some lights as well it can look a bit khaki on the nails.

I have no idea which I will wear and knowing me I will end up getting another colour! But so far out of the three the I would rank them as

  1. ELF

  2. Barbara Daly

  3. Misguided

I will try to do an NOTN, OOTN and FOTN if I don't hate them when I go out so you can see how it all looked in the end.

Any other suggests would be great, I am really looking for a darkish colour but sparkly or metallic - no MATT.

Concealer - 1, 2, 3 or 4?????

I used to just use one concealer for everything - under eyes, redness, blemishes and any other little marks. But I never found that this worked for me. I'm quite pale and my dark circles are just awful!! God, some days I swear I look as though I've got two black eyes, and if I'm lucky they just look extremely purple. Well anyway, using the same concealer for everything just wasn't working. I used to have to pile loads on under my eyes, and I'd just end up looking cakey. So not a good look.

Anyway, to that end I thought I'd do a round up of the current concealers I use. I have 4 on the go at the moment - although realistically I only use 3 on a day to day basis and I've started to question whether this is a bit excessive.

Below are the ones I'm using at the moment..............................
Firstly, the It Stick,

I actually got this when it was free with Glamour mag - I loved it straight away and stocked up on another 3 of them as they were only £2. They usually cost around £17.00 from the likes of Boots and Debenhams, however you can purchase them online at Cheap smells for £6.95. I find that its a really good all round concealer and the colour blends in perfectly. I use this daily under my foundation to cover the redness around my nose and any blemishes I have. I also apply this as the first base to concealing my eyes.

You would think that as its in a pencil form that it would be quite hard, but is so isn't. Its very soft and it has quite a creamy texture and blends in really well. It also looks quite light in the picture, but its one colour for all skin tones and really does work on most people.

Overall I love this! and will definitely be re-purchasing when my backups run out (I only have 2 and a bit left at the moment).

Next up is Barbara Daly's concealer,
This is around £3.60 (can't remember if that's exactly right) and you can find it at Tesco's. I found this after a recommendation from Glamour mag, in an issue that had the Beauty Editors giving their tips for the best products and since then its been one of my most re-purchased products. It has a creamy texture which does blend well but can be quite thick. I usually use it under my eyes more but that's mainly due to the colour. But its slightly dark to use on my face and can look a bit orangey.

I do love this, however since discovering the It Stick I've not really used it as much. But it's such good value for money and I would highly recommend it, especially if you're after a budget concealer.

Next is my most recent purchase, Laura Mercier secret camouflage concealer,
This is the most expensive of the lot - I think I paid £25.00 for this from Selfridges. Although it may have been slightly less.

This can be used all overall, but I definitely prefer it just under my eyes. You can blend the two shades together to a colour that suits you with a concealer brush, however I like to firstly pat the light shade around my eyes and then pat the dark one all over. Even though it looks quite dark it blends in really well and really helps with my dark circles. Its weird, as I wouldn't usually use something with such an orangey tone to it but it works perfectly under my eyes. I would go as far as to say its my HG concealer. I just don't know how I survived before this ha ha!
Overall, its my most loved concealer!

Finally we have Garnier's Caffeine Anti-dark circles 2 in 1 roll on,
This costs around £9.99 and I wouldn't say its amazing, but I enjoy using it.
This once again is quite orangey and it has a very thin consistency to it. I wouldn't use this on its own under my eyes as I just don't feel that it covers much up. However this is great to apply as my last step to my under eye concealing process, it helps to stop my eye area from looking cakey. I got this ages and ages ago and its still going, so I probably will re-purchase but solely on the basis that it helps with a more natural makeup look.

So my question is, does anyone else use more than one concealer or am I just being a bit excessive?

Going Crazy In Tesco

These days I hardly ever go to Tesco. This is because the nearest one isn't actually that near and therefore it's a bit far to go just to see if there is anything worth picking up.

However...

On Sunday I was in the area and given that it was like a once every 6 months opportunity I thought I better pick up a few things to try. As you can see...

So we have:-
  1. Skin Wisdom Micro-dermabrasion Kit. It should normally be just under £10.00 but I paid around £6.00 for it.
  2. Skin Wisdom Instant Beauty Balm £4.97
  3. All About Face Blusher £1.49
  4. All About Face Lipstick £1.49
  5. Barbara Daly Lipstick £5.06
  6. Barbara Daly E/S trio £5.35
  7. Barbara Daly Concealer £3.50
I have used everything but the Micro-derm and e/s trio so far and I am very pleased with my purchases!!! Reviews coming soon!!
In the meantime, here's the lip colours...

First up - Barbara Daly in Coral
with flash without flash
I absolutely love this lippie and colour. Its moisturising and although it has a sheen it doesn't make you look like you are about to go out to space with your tinfoil space suit!
I just love how its a more sheer coral that makes it very wearable for the day.
Secondly here is the All About Face Lippie in Nude

with flash without flash

Again this is a lovely moisturising lip colour, with a little sheen (but again not too much) which just looks nice alone, or over the top of a stronger lip colour. I love this for just popping on in the day as it's nude without being so nude I look like I have "concealer lips", or washing out my skin tone!!
